As collectible card games, also known as CCGs, have risen in popularity since the arrival of Magic: The Gathering in the early 90’s, there have been a plethora of systems and brands that have come and gone nearly as fast as they hit the market. The latest WWDC 2010 conference has shown that CDE Humble Gaming was releasing a new CCG intended to wow fans with fast action and leveraging the talent, skill and experience that its team brings to the table to create something totally unique: a collectible card game that was designed to be experienced on the Apple iPhone smart phone gaming platform. The biggest priority for the designers has proved to be setting up a very easy to access game with a short learning curve that did not rely exclusively on the need to collect the best possible cards as a way to win, instead offering the unique cards as a way to get unique experiences in game. This change from arming players with more rare cards as power mongers is seen as a step in the right direction by many CCG experts.
The app will be designed to give players access to further card sets as they are released with decks containing 5 cards each that the players will be able to use to do battle. Arena 9, the title of the game, allows player to go head to head against other players online to gain points through waging battle on a 3 by 3 grid. In all, the game is seen as a major advance for the interactivity of gaming apps as well as the CCG market.
