The hit game Mafia has now come out with a sequel, Mafia 2, that will be arriving for gamers near the end of August and it turns out that there are incentives for those players who are willing to spring for a new copy of the game rather than making do with a used copy: the reward of free downloadable content from maker 2K Games. This is quite similar to what Electronic Arts has done by building in an extra ticket booth for buyers of used games in from of the multi-player modes that come with the EA Sports Online Pass. 2K will be making this pack of downloadable content available to PS3 players only from the very start. All of the new copies of Mafia 2 will be shipped with a one time use code that players can use to activate and then download the new content so those who want to purchase the game 2nd hand will not be able to take advantage of the added fun. Not all fans, critics or experts are behind this approach, but for analysts in many sectors the choice is clear: either game companies find a way to revitalize sales of new titles or they will certainly be dying a slow and quite miserable death.
The content module will be titled The Betrayal of Jimmy and 2K Games has said that it will feature city based missions in an arcade style format. The content is only available for PS3 owners and there is a $9.99 price tag that will be attached with the game for those who do not have a new copy with the code to get it free.
